Preventive Teeth Cleanings & Comprehensive Dental Examination
Keep Your Whole Body Healthy With Regular Dental Exams & Cleanings. Even if you take excellent care of your teeth and gums at home, the Canadian Dental Association still recommends visiting a dentist at least twice yearly. Our team uses microscopic technologies to check for problems that may be difficult to see with the naked eye, as well as specialized imaging technologies to identify issues otherwise unseen.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
If you’re experiencing pain in the back of your mouth and are in your late teens or early twenties, you are probably a good candidate for wisdom tooth surgery.
During your consultation, our doctors will complete an extensive examination, including a panoramic radiograph and CBCT 3D, to get an in-depth view of your mouth. If we determine that your third molars should be removed, we will provide you with a personalized care plan that maps out what you can expect throughout the treatment cycle.
Kelowna Dental Centre is conveniently located just 10 minutes away from UBC Okanagan, making it easy for students to get the care they need.
Athletic Mouth Guards
Protect Your Pearly Whites With A Custom Mouth Guard
Custom athletic mouthguards are the best line of defense against tooth loss for athletes of all ages. As a bonus, they also protect the wearer from developing concussions.
And, if you suffer from bruxism (grinding while you sleep), our Kelowna dentists can make you a custom nightguard, giving you the relief you deserve.
Digital Radiographs & Dental Cone Beam CT
Radiographs are necessary during your dental visits to diagnose damage and disease not visible to the naked eye. X-ray frequency depends on your present oral health, age, disease risk, and signs or symptoms of oral disease. For example, children may require x-rays more often than adults because their teeth are still developing and are more likely to be affected by decay.
For new patients, the dentist may need current images to determine the present status of your oral health to identify changes that may occur later. X-rays will assist your dentist in detecting new cavities, monitoring gum health, and evaluating the development of your teeth.
Studies show that dental radiographs are safe and emit the lowest amount of radiation. Every precaution, such as proper shielding, is taken to ensure radiation exposure is as low as reasonably achievable. Exposure during a routine exam is comparable to a short flight (1-2 hrs).
Digital technology further reduces radiation exposure as compared to traditional film x-rays. In fact, digital images use up to 90 percent less radiation than film x-rays.
Our team also uses cutting-edge CBCT dental technology for precise diagnosis and treatment planning which allows for healthier, accurate, and rapid assessment.
Gum Disease Treatment
Healthy gums are firm and pale pink. If your gums are puffy, dusky red, bleed easily, or show other signs or symptoms of periodontitis, see your dentist. Periodontitis is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and destroys the bone that supports your teeth. Periodontal diseases can predispose individuals to several systemic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, oral and colorectal cancer, gastrointestinal diseases, respiratory tract infection and pneumonia, adverse pregnancy outcomes, diabetes and insulin resistance, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Caught in the early to moderate stages, the doctor will prescribe a schedule of regular professional cleanings to interrupt the disease progression. The goal of treatment is to thoroughly clean the pockets around teeth and prevent damage to the surrounding tissues and bone. At 2 – 4 month intervals (depending on the severity of the disease) your hygienist will perform the following treatments:
- Scaling – removes tartar and bacteria from your tooth surfaces and beneath your gums. It may be performed using instruments or an ultrasonic device.
- Root planing – smoothes the root surfaces, discouraging further buildup of tartar and bacterial endotoxin.
- Surgical – Surgical treatments may be recommended for those cases that do not respond well to routine scaling and root planing.
Prompt care reduces the chance of irreversible damage caused by periodontitis and may prevent complications and other serious health problems. You have the best chance for successful treatment when you maintain your regimen of professional cleaning and adopt a daily routine of good oral care, including regular brushing, flossing, and rinsing together with a healthy diet.

Regular Dental Checkups
Dental Checkups & Preventive Care
Our child dentists follow oral health guidelines established by the Canadian Dental Association, advising children to be seen for checkups every 6 months. If our team discovers multiple cavities or early orthodontic concerns, we may suggest more frequent appointments.
We offer the following treatments and scans as part of our regular dental checkups:
- Dental Sealants
- Teeth-Strengthening Mineral Treatment
- Silver Diamine Treatment
- Digital X-Rays
- Intra Oral Cameras
Tooth-Coloured Dental Fillings
At Kelowna Dental Centre, our focus is always on delivering preventive care that keeps smiles healthy well into the future. That said, small cavities can still occur in all ages. To treat them, we use safe, effective, and mercury-free tooth-coloured dental fillings.
Dental Crowns For Children
If your child suffers an oral injury, or if our team discovers decay, we may recommend a dental crown to help save and treat the tooth. Remember that our team uses needle-free laser technology to reduce anxiety and increase comfort during these procedures.
We may recommend a gentle tooth extraction to children who are suffering from decay or those who are experiencing crowding. Tooth extractions can ensure that their complete health stays intact as they grow.
And, if you have a teenager/young adult who is experiencing pain in the back of their mouth, they may benefit from wisdom tooth removal. Our team will take a series of digital x-rays and intra-oral scans to determine which procedure is best for your teen.
Sedation Dentistry For Children
Is your child nervous to visit the dentist? Do they have trouble following directions? Are they facing extensive dental treatment? If so, we can offer your child laughing gas, oral conscious sedation, or even IV sedation based on their needs and health history.
Many children benefit from sedation dentistry because it helps make their experience in the dental chair calmer and more productive. It also helps small children form positive views of dentists at a young age, helping pave the way for healthy oral habits for life.
Solea® Laser Needle-Free Dentistry
The innovative Solea Laser, an FDA-approved technology, is a game-changing option for children’s dental treatment as it often does not require needles or freezing. It can be used to prepare cavities for fillings as well as perform gum procedures with virtually no discomfort.
The key to Solea’s effectiveness and efficiency is the sophisticated computer system that guides it, as well as the unique wavelength the laser emits. Patients benefit not only from the speed, quietness, and precision Solea offers but also from the minimal blood and tissue trauma.
Our people embody the patient-centric culture and our commitment to being excellent stewards of your health that are key to Kelowna Dental Centre’s code of conduct.
